We Got the House! & Before Pictures
We were on our vacation in Jamaica when we got the word from Thomas (our realtor) that our offer had officially been accepted at the end of our option period, i.e. WE GOT THE HOUSE! We had a great dinner at GeeJam (our hotel) and drank a Red Stripe / glass of wine under the full moon.
Remember this picture b/c we won't look this cute again for the rest of this story...
The day we closed on the place and our life changed forever...November 23rd. We celebrated and then drove straight to Arkansas for Thanksgiving.
James wishes he wouldn't have gone with the 'Thumbs-up' dance, but hey, when you're excited who can control how they dance?
Looks pretty good from the outside eh?, well don't be fooled - it's a dog on the inside.
Also, this is with the new roof that the seller's paid for before we closed.
Now for the official tour...as you look at these pictures just image an incredibly rancid smell and know that the flash on the camera somehow made the whole place look better than it was.
Here's a shot of the front door (on the right) and the doorway to the hallway leading to the bedrooms. We think this place might have been owned by Little People before us by the looks of those doors.
Below is a pic of the front bay windows, just to the other side of the front door from the picture above.
Below is looking out of the front bay windows, we really like the big trees in this part of Lake Highlands! Note the glass in the lower right is old and busted.
Looking back towards the front door into the Formal Living Room, from what will be our Dining Room.
Below is the Dining Room in all of it's current glory.
Now for the kitchen / family living room...
Fur downs with red-checker wall paper, fake brick backsplash, and 1980's wood colored linoleum were our favorite features of these rooms.
There's four entrances to this space: door from the dining room (above), door from the hallway leading to the bedrooms (left), the door from the garage, and the door to the backyard patio.
The peninsula in the kitchen gave us inspiration for our future design...
Above and left is the family living room that joins the kitchen. This is where we'll keep the TV and be casual. This space also joins with the back patio area (below) which is a bonus.
We really like the openness of this layout - that was a big factor in going with this house.
Our inspector said this house was pretty much in 'Original Condition' b/c it had been owned for 40 years by a little old lady. Case and point - the pink and grey tile covering the hallway bathroom.
Can anybody say BOOM!!! See below - they were in both bathrooms.
Here's the hallway left and below. Who knows about the ceiling fan? Evidently it's old school, so we're going to keep it to stay true to our roots.
Here's a few randoms for your enjoyment: there were 2 or 3 cracks like the one to the left in each room, some holes in doors like the one below, and a pretty rockin HVAC system pictured at the bottom.
